Topics

Use of respiratory-correlated 4D imaging (3D + time) for organ motion quantification during treatment planning, such as 4D Computed Tomography (4DCT) and 4D Magnetic Resonance Imaging (4D MRI)

Exploitation of different image modalities, such as Computed Tomography (CT), anatomical and quantitative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), for radiotherapy treatment personalization. Among the investigated functional MRI techniques, a speficic focus is given to Diffusion-Weighted MRI (DW-MRI).

Development of a robotic 6 DOF patient positioning system (PPS) based on pantographic architecture featuring high positional open-loop accuracy with varying weight. This is combined with infra-red optical tracking for set-up and immobility verification and double X-ray projection systems for 2D-3D registration. This system is installed at the National Centre of Oncological Hadrontherapy (CNAO, Pavia, Italy).

Strategies for validation, benchmarking and quality assurance in radiation oncology are of particular interest and include.

Implementation of advanced classification and predictive models based on radiomics features and machine learning strategies as decision support tools in computed aided surgery and radiotherapy.
